VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) A 62-year-old man
died when his television fell on him, apparently
when he grabbed it to pull himself up after a
fall.
Herbert Barclay died Tuesday evening. Knox
County Coroner Gordon Becher listed the
cause of death as asphyxiation due to
compression by a blunt object.
The television, a large one designed to sit
directly on the floor, was instead resting on a
14-inch table, so it was unstable even before
Barclay tried to use it as leverage to pick
himself up, Becher said. He did not know how
much it weighed.
An autopsy report wasn't back yet this morning,
but the coroner said Barclay, who weighed
about 160 pounds, likely died quickly.
A friend found the body when he checked on
Barclay on Wednesday morning, Becher said.
The victim lived
alone.
