Free Azimjon Askarov
Designed for the 2019 annual dinner gala of the Committee to Protect Journalists, this printed newspaper profiled journalist Azimjon Askarov, imprisoned by the government of Uzbekistan for nearly 20 years. The paper included a space for dinner attendees to write messages to Askarov that CPJ would deliver. The back of the paper visualized CPJ's Impunity Index, an annual ranking of countries where journalists are slain for their work and their killers go free.
In a March 2020 interview, Azimjon wrote how the letters and messages from around the world buoyed his spirits.
At the 2019 International #PressFreedom Awards, host Shepard Smith made an appeal in support of Azimjon Askarov, an investigative journalist and human rights advocate in #Kyrgyzstan who has been imprisoned since June 2010. #FreeAzimjon #IPFA pic.twitter.com/cO3pFGzFUy
